Mariela Herrera, MD Associate Program Director - Evaluation

Dr. Herrera was born and raised in Costa Rica, where she completed medical school. After graduating medical school, she worked in a rural area with a predominantly Native costarican population. She completed the first part of her post-graduate psychiatry training.  She then joined Cleveland Clinic to complete a general psychiatry residency and a child/adolescent psychiatry fellowship.  During her time there, she earned several honors, including resident of the year and a chief resident appointment.

At the Billings Clinic, Dr. Herrera has continued to teach  and mentor medical students, PA students, and APRN trainees.  She is especially passionate about implementing best practices in trauma-informed care to serve youth exposed to abuse and neglect. She is involved in research on the implementation of triple chronotherapy in the youth inpatient unit and has interest in getting services to rural Montana through ECHO and MAPP-Net projects.
